Hercules' trainer, Philoctetes (recorded voice by Danny DeVito and some bumptious comic skating by a well-padded Mark Farrington), cracks wise about Thebes ('The Big Olive') and other facts of ancient urban life. The Muses are a rock-gospel quintet with some serious hairdos and the lead voice of Lillias White on the recorded score. But there's always something diverting and contemporary to cover any confusion. Young children may have trouble following the plot, which tracks Hercules from his birth on a foam- and-frame Mount Olympus to his dealings with Hades and all his mortal travails on Earth. Maybe the producers thought 'Hercules on Ice' sounded too male and muscular to sell. It's about gods and monsters and machinery. It's a kind of Disney hearts-and-flowers trade show.īut 'Happily Ever After' isn't really about love. Minnie and Mickey Mouse impersonate Cinderella and her Prince and throw in some canned treacle about romance. Snow White and the Prince, Aladdin and Jasmine and Beauty and her Beast do a little languid pairs-skating. This show opens and closes with live trailers from other Disney movies. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, apparently believes. Or at least that's what the Feld Entertainment team, which also produces the Ringling Bros. These iced Disney productions, after all, are competing in the young consumers' imagination with the original animated features. Not that children seem to mind the sensory overload.

You may miss the dragon's share of the skating. Just don't slip out for popcorn between the flight of a giant Pegasus model and the hydraulically powered 'animatronic' Hydra.
